JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Superintendent

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for curriculum design and development, instructional services, career and technical education programs, programs for gifted education, special education, and student services.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate and supervise pre-K through 12 curriculum design, instructional initiatives and programs, student assessment, school improvement planning and monitoring, and program evaluation.
  • Serve a lead role in matters related to curriculum, instruction, and student assessment, including long-range planning as it relates to the school division’s strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with community groups, administrators, educational partners, and others to implement effective educational programs for Henry County students.
  • Direct planning for instructional programs; plan and oversee all instructional programs and professional development activities for instructional staff.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs; observe and monitor instructional programs and program staff.
  • Serve on a variety of task forces and committees; attend community and Board of Supervisors’ meetings as appropriate.
  • Assist with the development, preparation, and monitoring of instructional budgets; review, approve, and monitor federal and other grants.
  • Gather data and prepare reports for the Superintendent and School Board as required.
  • Participate in committee meetings for the purpose of developing instructional, curricular, assessment, and related policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Coordinate and supervise the offices of special education and student services (student discipline, student placement, alternative education, and homebound instruction).
  • Coordinate and supervise the state and local student assessment program.
  • Attend principal meetings, staff, School Board, and related meetings.
  • Perform related work as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in administration and supervision. Minimum of three (3) years successful experience as a building-level administrator in a public school system and five (5) years successful experience in teaching.  Experience working as a central office administrator and additional studies beyond the master’s degree in curriculum development and school administration is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school officials, teachers, support staff, law enforcement, external organizations and federal, state and local agency representatives.

SALARY RANGE:  Assistant Superintendent Salary Scale
