JOB TITLE:  Special Population Paraprofessional

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Under direction of the school principal and special education teacher, plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of the students to ensure success. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings. Communicate and interact with students and staff. Assist in the development, selection and modification of instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. Adhere to Henry County Schools’ policies, regulations and procedures. Participation in staff development and Safety Care training required. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university or completion of 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university or passing score on the ParaPro examination.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, pushing, and pulling, use of hands to grasp, handle or feel, fine manipulation, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of office equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

In addition to the base salary, Special Population Paraprofessionals assigned to autism, emotional disability, and multiple disability classrooms also receive $2,000 in stipends annually for working in these positions. Not all HCPS Special Population Paraprofessionals receive the stipends; just those specifically assigned to autism, emotional disability, and multiple disability classrooms.
