JOB TITLE: Reading Teacher 

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Under the direction of the principal, the responsibilities of the position fall into two categories. As a teacher, this position is responsible for providing direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, to enable students to develop literacy skills. As a Reading teacher, the position is responsible for implementing a comprehensive literacy program at the assigned school through teaching and supporting students using best practices for literacy instruction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum. Knowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading instruction. Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum. Ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school based staff, students, parents and community. Ability to use diagnostic data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of the students. Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills. Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, pushing, and pulling, use of hands to grasp, handle or feel, fine manipulation, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of office equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
